Adzick Field - Clayton, MO

JBC Landscape Architects partnered with Bond Architects to develop Master Plan concepts for the renovation of Adzick Field. The goal of the project was to explore strategies that would enhance the facility’s usability and ease of maintenance, ultimately improving the overall performance and functionality of the field. Through this collaboration, the team aimed to reimagine the space into a more versatile and sustainable athletic facility.

The evaluation revealed several key issues limiting the effectiveness of the existing field. These included improper grading and poor drainage, which were made worse by compacted soils, along with an outdated and inefficient irrigation system. The field also suffered from overuse and a lack of rest periods, contributing to its deterioration. Additionally, the existing layout supported only a single sport, and the location of the bullpens posed safety concerns for players. Years of short-term fixes further compromised the long-term integrity of the facility.

To address these challenges and transform Adzick Field into a top-tier, multi-sport high school facility, several major improvements were proposed. Plans include installing a synthetic turf surface with multi-sport markings, retrofitting the field with energy-efficient LED lighting, and adding modern dugouts and bullpens. A new press box with integrated concessions and storage, a scoreboard, and defined entry gateways are also part of the vision—creating a more functional, safe, and welcoming environment for athletes and spectators alike.
