McCoy Group Headquarters

The McCoy Group sought to expand their office headquarters in Dubuque with a focus on creating inviting outdoor spaces for employees. To design a versatile and engaging outdoor environment that would foster both productivity and relaxation, key elements of the project included:

  • An outdoor kitchen for social gatherings

  • Amphitheater-style seating for flexible work and events

  • Smaller private spaces for quiet moments

The design aimed to provide a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor workspaces, encouraging employees to connect with nature while maintaining functionality for work and social interactions. As the lead landscape architect, JBC played a central role in shaping these outdoor spaces into a well-integrated site plan.

One of the most significant challenges of the project was managing the site’s elevation changes. Dubuque's natural topography required careful attention to grading to ensure that the paths and gathering spaces met proper slope requirements for accessibility. Our collaborative design team worked together to tackle this challenge, ensuring that the outdoor spaces were functional, aesthetically pleasing, and easy to navigate. The result is a thoughtfully designed extension of the McCoy Group headquarters, blending form and function to create a dynamic and inviting outdoor environment.
